About
this Project |
Betty Fraser passed away in January 2004. Betty Fraser is one of the artists profiled on this site in the PROFILES section. This more in-depth study of Betty Fraser was the first to be added to this site. Betty worked and exhibited for over fifty years with the majority of her work from the 1960's onwards using a wide range of textile processes. In 1999 I borrowed a series of photograph albums from my mother, Betty Fraser and scanned more than a hundred photographs and documents recording over fifty works of art. This included a number of articles written over the last twenty years in the local Otago newspapers as well as one from the New Zealand Listener. Along with a series of interviews with Betty undertaken in 1999, this digital collection of images has formed the basis for this project. The majority of the original photographs were taken by David Fraser, my father, but the silk paintings were documented in 1999 by my brother, Chris Fraser. The early works featured on this site were photographed from the private collections of the late Ann and Bill Hall in Paremata, and Susie Hall, of Wellington. Ann and Betty were sisters and Susie is Ann and Bill's daughter. |
