Completed in 1991, and measuring 3m x 2m, this mural is in the foyer of the Mary King Building at Otago Girls High School in Dunedin.

When Betty was a pupil at the school in 1944 a new school song, The Chambered Nautilus was introduced by the principal, Miss Mary King.

The major motif is the chambered nautilus.

"I used the shape several times in the mural to emphasise the growth and development achieved through education"

Other areas of the mural deal with a girl's childhood, symbolised by images of spring, maturing into womanhood, featuring autumn themes and flowers.
