Completed in 1983, this mural was commissioned
for the Clutha County Council by its engineering consultants to mark
the opening of a new building.
It measures 1.85m x .9m and depicts
a Maori legend about the origins of Balclutha.
The mural currently hangs in
the foyer of the Clutha District Council building in Wilson Road,
Balclutha.

"Discussing details
of her wool sculpture with the chairman of the Clutha County Council,
Mr Jack Treacy (right), is Mosgiel artist Mrs Betty Fraser. The work
was presented to the council yesterday by Mr Ian Pairman (centre)
from the council's consulting engineers, Duffill, Watts and King.
It depicts a Maori legend and was commissioned by the engineers to
mark the opening of the county administration buildings last year.
It has been hung in Mr Treacy's office.
