This project was facilitated by Flying Colours Community bannermakers Barbara Joseph and Nora West in May 1997.

It was designed and printed by members of Framework Trust, an activity and employment resource for people with mental health issues in Kingsland, Auckland.

The banner is used to promote Mental Health Awareness Week in September of each year and has been hung at conferences and open days by the trust.

The central image of the banner is of a taniwha in a stormy sea. The image was decided on by the group working on it as it is symbolic in Maori mythology of refuge, protection and endurance.
