This project was facilitated by Flying
Colours Community bannermakers Barbara
Joseph and Nora West
in 1998.
A series of 24 lamp post banners were
designed and printed over two days to decorate and publicise "Waitakere
Pacifica", a celebration of Pacific Island culture held in West Auckland.
The Pacific Island Advisory Board and Waitakere Community
Arts coordinator, Cathy Kencel, brought together groups representing various
Pacific cultural traditions to work with the Flying Colours team. Designs
and styles are those of Tonga, Cook Islands, Samoa, Tovalu, and Niue.
Each banner is 2m x .80m and is made of
cotton duck with textile inks.
