This workshop took place in November 1996. The class of 6 year olds at Westmere Primary School in Auckland worked with teacher Barbara Perry and artist Barbara Joseph. The banner is hanging in the newly built library at the school. Each child in the year 2 class contributed to a 'frame' by drawing a self portrait. The drawings were reduced in size using a photocopier and arranged around an oblong sheet of black paper and glued down to a backing. The whole piece was then photocopied onto acetate at a copy shop. The acetate was then used to make up a photo screen at a screen print suppliers. On printing day, the children arranged a cut out shape they had made on a t-shirt. The shape was of themselves in their favourite 'dress up" such as batman, a mermaid, a fairy. The made up screen was used to print the shape on the t-shirt and a banner. After drying, the children painted colours into their images using thinned down fabric inks. The banner measures .75m x 2.5 metre.
