Barbara Joseph conducted fabric printing
workshops with several classes at Westmere Primary School in Auckland
in 1996 and 1999. The outcome was two sets
of printed curtains and two classrooms are now decorated with the curtains.
One set was made with a class
of 5 year olds and teacher Cathy Pole, the other set with a class of
7 and 8 year olds and teacher Ngaire Evans.
The curtains depict Western Springs,
a nearby park and nature reserve located in central Auckland, from the
children's perspective. Pukekos, ducks and
eels inhabit the lake and foreshore. The children show themselves exploring
and playing in the park. The materials used
are textile inks on cotton calico.
