Ingrid Dubbelt and Sandy Morris established Dubbelt Morris Textiles in Auckland in 1994. The screenprinted fabric lengths featured here are from the Auckland Museum Applied Arts collection.

Ingrid Dubbelt gained a post-graduate Diploma in Textile Design from the Central School of Art in London. On returning to New Zealand in 1986 she established a studio as Ingrid Dubbelt Textiles. She produced handprinted textiles for interior furnishings using a combination of textures and cut stencil screenprints.

The influence was "Pacific modern", drawing for inspiration on Polynesian and Melanesian tapa cloth, 1950's interior and textile designs, and the late collages of Henri Matisse.

She was joined by Sandy Morris to form Dubbelt Morris Textiles (1994-1997). Their range initially included domestic linens then concentrated on print to order upholstery, bed linen, blinds and curtaining.

They worked together on commissions for private clients, architects and interior designers. While predominately specializing in handprints, Dubbelt Morris also sold designs to large New Zealand-based bed linen and textile companies.

"On a good day," she recalls, "we printed up to 40 metres of fabric."

Ingrid Dubbelt is a niece of William Mason of Mason Handprints, who is also featured here in the Museum's collection.
