Rose McLeod

Rose McLeod began quilting while living in New York in the early 70's. She is self taught and from traditional patchwork quilting beginnings she developed the craft into a medium for high art, using challenging colour and strong design and composition.

An expressionist using abstract form, she is stimulated by her deep love of Nature and a need to put it directly to people in a bold and simple way.

Her forms and symbols are organic as is the way she works. She quilts and appliques by hand, machining only when expedient. Her quilts have been exhibited in group shows throughout New Zealand and she has had several solo exhibitions.

Her works have successfully sold and are now in collections in New Zealand, the U.S.A. and Britain.

Born in Devonport, Auckland with Ngai Tahu ancestry. She currently lives at Orapiu, Waiheke Island, Auckland.
